Rihanna was born in Saint Michael, Barbados and raised there. She was a candidate for Evan Rogers, an American record producer who asked her to record demo tapes for the United States. After joining Def Jam in 2005, Rihanna gained acclaim with the release of her first two studio albums: Music of the Sun (2005) and A Girl Like Me (2006) and A Girl Like Me (2006), both of which were inspired by Caribbean music, and both reached the top ten of the US Billboard 200 chart.
